Introducing… March 26, 2007 at 10:49 am

No more fence sitting.  Drum role please…

Meet Scobee:

Scobee is named after American Astronaut Dick Scobee.

Meet Yuri:

Yuri is named after Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin

These two are definitely brothers.  Like my brother and I, they are constantly fighting with each other, but still good friends.  I can see that they will eventually settle down, but right now they take all their extra energy out on each other.  How can you not love kitties?

Purring in Stereo March 24, 2007 at 7:19 am

I have two content little (still unnamed) kitties purring on each side of the keyboard as I type this. Loudly. Both are rumbling away. I should be able to feel the purr in the keyboard. At least I know they are happy about something.

I’ve been considering names for the beasties and these are the current candidates. (#1 is White Bib, #2 is “cloudy”) RC & Beta / Scobee & Yuri. RC is Release Candidate in geek-speak and Beta is prerelease stuff. Dick Scobee was the commander of the ill-fated shuttle mission in 1986 and Yuri Gagarin was the first human in space. I’ve had a cat named after a Greek letter in the past so even though I like RC & Beta as names I am leaning towards other names.

#1 has now moved to leaning on my left arm and is just a humming away. #2 is curled up behind (check that). I went to grab my camera and #1 bailed on me and is figure 8ing around my legs marking his territory. Strike that. He is thinking this typing thing is a good idea. I’ve always had cats that resisted photography. As soon as they noticed anyone paying attention to them, they either bolted (Dax) or came running for a petting (Kamin). Epsilon was his own character. Purrrfect.

The kids while I was attempting to write this:

 RC or Scobee?

Beta or Yuri?

A fight for the right to own the keyboard just as I posted this earlier (brothers!):

Still working on naming the beasties but these are my new friends:

They are brothers and are starting to adapt to their new home.  In less than a week I expect them to completely own the place.  Their first night was a little timid.  The one with the white bib is the alpha male and much more outgoing.  The other is starting to warm up to me.  Last night and today Mr. Bib spent a few minutes rumbling in my lap.  Mr. Beta wants to be join the petting fest but is still a touch to frightened. Both spent a portion of the night UNDER my "bed."  I fully expect both to join me by the end of the week.  :)

It has been two years from the death of my first cat (Kamin) and about a year and a half from the death of my second cat (Dax).  Both died in 2005 while I was living in Florida. I’ve wanted cats in my life again but I had been putting it off for a number of reasons.  It is looking like this weekend I will have two new youngsters in my life.  If all goes well, I will be adopting a couple of “tween-age” kitties.  They aren’t quite kittens but they are not fully adults yet either.

I quite like cats and I think it will be nice to have them back in my home.

Now I just need to figure out “better” names than the “foster” home gave them.  Such a hard life I lead at times…
